Exterior house washing in Palmerston North

Cladding goes green and grey slowly enough that you stop seeing it. A house wash takes the grime, mould and cobwebs off the outside and makes the place look looked after.

Soft washing, not blasting

We wash houses at low pressure. High pressure looks impressive and it is hard on a house. It can lift paint, force water in behind weatherboards and around window seals, and mark softer cladding.

Soft washing lets the cleaning product do the work, then rinses it away gently. It is slower than blasting and it leaves the paint and the garden the way we found them.

What gets washed

The cladding, all the way round. The joinery, meaning window and door frames. The eaves and soffits, where cobwebs and dust collect. And the outside of the windows, so the glass matches the walls when we finish.

The shaded side of the house usually needs the most work. It stays damp longest, and that is where mould and green growth take hold first.

When it is worth doing

Before painting, because paint holds better on a clean surface. Before selling, because the outside of the house is the first photo in the listing. And after a wet winter, when the south side has gone green.

If it is your first wash in a few years, mention that when you ask. It changes how long the job takes and we would sooner tell you up front.

Exterior house washing questions

Will house washing damage my paint?

Not at low pressure. Soft washing is used because it cleans without stripping paint or forcing water behind the cladding.

How often should a house be washed?

About once a year suits most houses in the Manawatu. Homes that are shaded or close to trees can need it more often.

Do you wash the windows as part of it?

Yes. The outside of the windows and the frames are washed along with the cladding.

Do I need to be home?

No, as long as we can reach an outside tap and get right around the house. Shut the windows before we arrive.
